Mercury Prize 2007 – And the winner is…

The Klaxons – WHY?! Better than the tripe that won it last year? Not much… They decided to wreck the podium when collecting their award, you think they’d know how a microphone works…i.e. don’t put it right in your mouth!!

The Klaxons - Myths Of The Near Future

I was hoping for Bat For Lashes, which is one of my favourite albums of 2007. Saying that, I’m always weary of the bands I like winning the prize due to ‘the curse‘ and all… so lets hope The Klaxons aren’t affected by it…

I lived on the moon

Another one of these very hyped internet songs is ‘I lived on the Moon’ by a relatively unknown French band called ‘Kwoon’, but don’t let the French part put you off!. It’s getting a lot of attention mainly due to the amazing animated video created to go along with it. However, the song itself is worthy of attention with influences being cited as Sigur Ros and Explosions In The Sky to name but a few.

You can download a higher quality version of the video over on Yanim.net.

The hype behind it reminds me of the JCB song by Nizlopi who have now all but disappeared!

Check out Kwoon on MySpace and over at their official website.

I hate April the 1st

I really should avoid going on the internet on April the 1st. What’s true and what’s not?

First up, a bunch of Muse fansites have teamed up and said they’ve all received a letter from warner music telling them to close and remove lyrics/tabs/the word muse from their domain names etc. (I’m ashamed to admit I fell for this one…).

Secondly NME.com had a news item about a certain band being the first to announce a gig in space, yep… you guessed it Muse again! I never fell for this one…

Finally, good old Google announced Google TiSP. Free internet for everyone, a little installation needed.

So far that’s all I’ve spotted so far, I’ve only been online for about 10 minutes though. Don’t worry, there wont be any cheap tricks from Rawkstar this year (mainly because I forgot about it and couldn’t think of anything…).

New design!

I’ve finally got around to making a custom design for the blog. It now looks like the podcasts site. This was originally planned for the main rawkstar site design, which I created a few mock ups for about a year ago… Now it’s live on the blog and the podcasts page it shouldn’t be long before it’s on the forum and the main site!

Anyway, any comments or criticisms just tell me here! Same goes for any bugs/oddities you spot.

Mime: Natalie Imbruglia – Torn

Look at this – It’s a live(ish) version of “Torn” by Natalie Imbruglia, she gets on stage with a mime who acts out her song – She even joins in with the actions near the end… The guitar solo bit is rather amusing too (even though it’s technically incorrect…).

Random Fact #119203 – David Ford played guitar on Natalie’s 3rd album “Counting Down the Days” which helped fund his solo album “I Sincerely Apologise for all the Trouble I’ve Caused” (More info).

Happy new year!

A belated happy new year from rawkstar!

Well i’ve been busy tweaking the design of the site, which will go mostly unnoticed but the world of music hasn’t gone unnoticed, and 2007 should see the return of some of our favourite bands.

The bands we’re looking forward to hearing from this year are:-

The Smashing Pumpkins – Yes, Billy Corgan and friends have got back together to reform the Smashing Pumpkins, as yet the actual reunited lineup is still unknown! Will D’arcy return? Links: smashingpumpkins.com / MySpace.

Idlewild – They’ve already announced a tour, single and album

I’ll also have to put in the news that Muse will be one of the first bands to play the brand spanking new Wembley Stadium, no less than 2 nights as well!! The first night sold out in a matter of hours and the 2nd night only has the seats about a mile from the stage left.

The BBC have also put up their upcoming bands for 2007 list, check it out!

Anything/anyone else you’re looking forward to seeing/hearing new material from in 2007? Tell us in the comments!
